Gloria Pinckney » Welcome

Welcome

Hello Parents,

I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you. My name is Gloria Pinckney, and I am teaching your child's Biology class this semester. For this class, your child will need a calculator that can perform exponential functions, pencils, and a 3-ring binder. Students should expect formal homework 2 to 3 times per week and should review the day's material each evening. Grades will be updated frequently on power school and I encourage you to log on to check your child’s progress.

If you are concerned about your child’s grades please call me at the school, (843)489-8892, email me at gloria.pinckney@jcsd.net , or schedule a conference with me. Our job together is to see to it that your child has the best opportunity to learn the information. When your child struggles with any information they should see me immediately for clarification and/or re-teaching. If you know of a special need your child has (like sitting in the front due to poor vision) please let me know as soon as possible so the issue may be addressed promptly.

In this classroom, there will be several instances where students are completing hands-on laboratory activities, where they will use laboratory equipment and chemicals. To ensure that each student is aware of the safety hazards and protective equipment, they will be required to pass a safety quiz and sign a safety contract that will be kept on file. Until both of these items have been completed, the student WILL NOT be allowed to perform lab activities. They will be given alternative assignments that replace the assignment points but cannot provide the same experience. Also, if a student is not following lab safety rules or does not participate in pre-lab activities the student will be given an alternate assignment. Students are strongly encouraged to study for the safety quiz and read/sign the safety contract so they may participate.

I am looking forward to an exciting year. I hope to get the opportunity to meet you during parent/teacher conferences.

Sincerely,

Gloria Pinckney
