English IV (Honors) (Period 1st)

Course Description

The English IV class is more commonly known as British Literature. The student will receive exposure to texts such as Shakespeare and Milton. The course emphasizes reading, interpreting, and analyzing imaginative literature (e.g. prose fiction, poetry, drama) and literary non-fiction (e.g. biography, memoir) and expository texts (informational documents, letters to the editor). You will analyze, interpret, and evaluate works in each of these three major genres. You will work to become better critical thinkers, readers, and writers. The course is organized by theme. English IV requires intensive reading and writing. We will read several full-length works in addition to poetry and non-fiction. You will write and revise frequently, and you will work daily in class to develop oral expression and listening skills.
