Future Focused: RHHS holds Financial Aid Workshop
Ridgeland-Hardeeville High wants to ensure that families are well informed about the importance of funding education after high school graduation. The high school held a Financial Aid Workshop, several juniors and seniors along with their parents attended and obtained information about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA), Scholarship, and Grants.
Dr. Karen Woodfaulk, from the Commission on Higher Education, provided basic, but essential information to families about obtaining financial assistance for college. Dr. Woodfaulk explained to students and parents the correct and incorrect ways of completing the FASFA application.
This Financial Aid Workshop provided more clarity to parents and students; to become more familiar with financial documents when preparing and applying for education assistance. It is imperative for both parents and students to understand the full processes for applying for education funding.
Many of the students and parents were excited to attend a session which allowed them to inquire about various financial terms, services, and become familiar about the financial aid application process. Andrea Habersham, senior class president at RHHS, stated “this experience provided me with a clear insight on the variety of opportunities to financially support my future career.”
RHHS Administration and Guidance and Career Counselors are continuing to ensure students are preparing themselves for higher educational opportunities.
RHHS also recently held EdOp (College Fair) Day; approximately 45 organizations participated in the event such as: Two-year, Four-year Colleges and Universities, Armed Services and more. Representatives shared valuable information about their organizations which ranged from the academic courses and program course offerings, financial aid, scholarships, athletic programs and more. During the time of EdOp (College Fair) Day, many students were still in the process of researching higher educational opportunities online; however, they expressed their excitement about being able to talk with representatives face-to-face.
