You have arrived to THE WONDERFUL WORLD of AVID! I am your teacher, Ms. Calloway. I am excited to get to know your student as they go through the year at Ridgeland-Hardeeville High School.Listed below you will find information about the AVID Elective.  With everyone working together on a common goal, we can assure that our students will achieve the highest level of academic success! 
What is AVID?
- A college preparatory program
 - An academic elective class
 - A program that helps students qualify for attendance to a four-year college or university
 
What AVID is NOT....
- An academic workshop or Study Hall
 - For unmotivated students. Students are expected to have "individual determination" and be willing to complete challenging work.
 - AVID is a support, not an intervention.
 
AVID Activities
- Learning with college tutors
 - Writing for all classes
 - Developing success strategies
 - Applying for college
 - Preparing for a professional career
 - Visiting college campuses
 - Interacting with guest speakers
 - Participation in extracurricular and community activities
 
Who May Participate?
Students who have the potential and desire to attend a four-year college and
Students who have the potential and desire to attend a four-year college and
- Have appropriate classroom behavior
 - Have a minimum 2.0 GPA
 - Have a good attendance record
 - Are willing to commit themselves to a minimum of two hours of homework each night
 - Are willing to commit to enrollment in a rigorous college preparatory sequence of courses
 - Are willing to complete the required hours of community service per year
