Welcome!
It is my honor and privilege to be a Jaguar at Ridgeland Secondary Academy of Excellence and to serve our students in mathematics instruction. I moved to Ridgeland three years ago from Upstate New York where I was the Dean of the mathematics division at a community college. I am excited to be able to focus my attention and passion on the students and families in my community. I bring over 30 years of experience as an educator and administrator in both secondary and post-secondary education. I have a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Art in Teaching English as a Second Language. I also have a Masters in the Art of Teaching Mathematics and a post-graduate certificate in community college leadership. I am originally from Canada and began my career teaching English as a Second Language at a post-secondary institution in Quebec. I have lived and been an educator in six different states in the United States - this is my second time living in South Carolina – I am thrilled to be back!
I am a relentless student advocate and I act every day on the fact that each student has gifts and talents they can hone and develop to bring value to their community and society at large. I work to develop self-efficacy and self-respect in my students so that they can pay that forward and bring their very best to everything they do. I strive to collaborate with my students to build a strong, positive learning environment.
On a personal note, I have been married for 28 years to my amazing husband and I have two incredible children. Samantha is 25 and a Kindergarten teacher in New York State and Alex is 22 and a senior at the University of South Carolina. I love to be outdoors, visit my family in northern Ontario, and read.
I appreciate working with students and families, so please reach out to me any time.
