Bio

Greetings and salutations! My name is LaWanda Peterson Dixon and I am pleased to be in the English department, here at Ridgeland High School. I am married. However, I have no children. My husband, Dariel and I, are the proud parents of a Miniature Schnauzer named Genesis. We currently reside in Savannah, GA. I have quite a few things going on in my life, so I suppose that I should go ahead and get started...

I am in my seventh year of teaching, but my fourth at Ridgeland Hardeeville High School. I teach 11th grade college prep Language Arts.  I also teach 12th grade College Prep and Honors Language Arts and the Teacher Cadets course. Finally, I am the Athletic Academic Advisor for all in-season sports. I am extremely passionate about the academic side of education, but I must confess: I love sports!

I graduated from Georgia State University with a B.A. in English and a concentration in Literature. My minor was African American Studies. I also have a master's degree in Secondary Education from the University of Phoenix. I am currently working on my Educational Specialist's degree in Educational Leadership and Administration at Arkansas State University.

The fact that I come from a family of educators is pretty amazing. Nearly every female on either side of my family has ended up teaching in some shape or form. Most notably, my mother, her mother, and her mother's mother were all educators. So I guess you could say that teaching is literally, in my blood. In other news, I am an active member of my sorority, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. I am also heavily involved in my church, Second African Baptist in Savannah, GA. Finally, I am an ‘on call’ agent for Delta Airlines. As you can tell, I spend most of my waking hours working at one thing or another.

I would like to add a sentence that says, "In my spare time I..." However, there really isn't that much spare time to go around. I do manage to bowl on a couple of different leagues during my "down time," and I enjoy reading a great deal. Finally, my secret love is scuba diving, though I don't get to dive that often. Thanks for reading. :)
